Hö egh Evi and PETROS will develop a LNG terminal in Sarawak.
Kuching, Malaysia, September 30, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- Hö egh Evi, a company headquartered in Norway that operates floating energy infrastructure globally, has signed a joint development agreement with the State of Sarawak's state-owned oil and gas company Petroleum Sarawak Berhad ( PETROS ), to jointly develop the proposed Kuching liquefied natural gas ( LNG ) terminal. This project is part of the development of the Sarawak Kuching Low-Carbon Hub ( KLCH ) in Malaysia.
This project is expected to contribute to enhancing Sarawak's energy security, supporting the growing demand for energy, and promoting the development of new industries in Kuching. This LNG terminal will become an important catalyst for the development of KLCH by supplying natural gas for power generation in Kuching.
According to the agreement, PETROS, Hö egh, and Evi will jointly develop, own, and operate the Kuching LNG terminal. This terminal will include a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), mooring infrastructure, subsea and land pipelines, as well as onshore reception facilities.
Long-term development partner of Sarawak
This collaboration combines PETROS in the role of the main developer for KLCH – which is actively promoting the construction of an energy and infrastructure ecosystem to support the next phase of growth in Sarawak – as well as the experience of Hö egh Evi as owners, developers, and operators of offshore energy infrastructure and FSRU.
Hö egh Evi, the Chief Executive Officer, stated: "Hö egh Evi is very proud to be a development partner with PETROS in advancing the Kuching LNG terminal project. This demonstrates our proven track record in delivering floating LNG infrastructure projects. We are committed to supporting the evolving infrastructure needs of Sarawak and driving long-term growth in the region."
Flexible infrastructure to support the future growth of Sarawak
The development goal of this project is to achieve the first gas supply by the end of 2029; at the same time, PETROS, Hö egh, and Evi will continue to assess opportunities to accelerate delivery in order to meet the growing demand. This LNG terminal will support Sarawak's ever-changing energy needs and provide a range of services, including small-scale LNG distribution, tank truck loading, ship refueling, storage, and reloading services.
Both parties will also explore opportunities in knowledge sharing, training, and skills development to enhance local capabilities and support Sarawak's long-term energy development.
