Robinhood released Robinhood Agents on the annual HOOD Summit, allowing users to use natural language to have AI analyze the market, formulate strategies, and automatically execute trades. The company also plans to launch new products such as 24/7 stock trading, perpetual futures, and profit contracts. While the company claims to have established multiple security mechanisms, the large-scale intervention of AI intelligent agents in trading has also raised concerns regarding market volatility and regulatory responsibilities.

Robinhood is now bringing the automated trading capabilities that were once exclusive to hedge funds and quantitative institutions directly into the hands of nearly 30 million ordinary investors.

At the annual HOOD Summit held in Houston on September 29th, Robinhood officially launched “Robinhood Agents” – an AI intelligent agent product that is deeply integrated into its applications. Users can, without any technical background, use natural language commands to have AI analyze markets, formulate strategies, and execute trades automatically, even when the users are asleep.

At the same time, the company also announced plans to launch a series of new products, including 24-hour stock trading, perpetual futures, and profit contracts, marking the most radical step taken so far by this brokerage firm, which advocates for "financial democratization."

The potential impact of this release on the market landscape cannot be ignored. Robinhood is currently the first brokerage firm to launch a native AI trading bot for a large-scale group of non-technical users, and it is expected that other fintech companies and traditional brokers will follow suit. At the same time, the large-scale involvement of AI bots in retail trading has also drawn widespread attention to increased market volatility and regulatory gaps.

AI Intelligent Entity Steps Out of the "Geek Circle" and Opens Up to All Users

The core logic of Robinhood Agents is to transform the AI trading interface, which was previously only available to technical users, into an in-app experience that anyone can easily use.

According to the official introduction from Robinhood, users only need to name their agent, set up a dedicated proxy account, and choose one from the multiple models provided by OpenAI and Anthropic – including GPT-6, Luna, GPT-6, Sol, or Anthropic's Opus 4.8 – to get started using it. The entire configuration process does not require any programming or technical knowledge.

Once the configuration is complete, users can issue commands to the agent in plain English, covering a range of tasks from simple instructions like "buy 200 dollars worth of Ford stock" to more complex strategies involving option rotation. The upcoming "Loops" feature will further expand this capability – users will be able to set up a set of strategies as ongoing commands, allowing the agent to execute them repeatedly according to predetermined conditions. For example, "check the market every morning and automatically trade when the conditions are met," or "run an overnight strategy to look for opportunities while the user is sleeping."

At the data level, Robinhood has also launched the “Agent Apps” ecosystem, which integrates 11 third-party data providers including Unusual Whales, Nasdaq Investor Intelligence, SpotGamma, Token Terminal, etc., providing institutional-level data support for agents. Each application comes with a one-month free trial period.

Usage data indicates strong early demand, but there are still uncertainties regarding large-scale adoption.

Robinhood opened up the MCP (model context protocol) tool to technical users in May of this year, allowing them to integrate third-party AI assistants into their trading accounts. According to Robinhood, since the launch of this feature, over 150,000 customers have opened proxy trading accounts, and currently, various agents perform nearly 30 million operations on the Robinhood platform every day.

This comprehensive opening to all approximately 29 million users is a formal response to the aforementioned early demands. Robinhood, Vice President of Product Management, Abhishek Fatehpuria stated: "Whether you are an AI expert or just getting started, if you don't use Robinhood, you will be at a disadvantage."

However, it is still unknown to what extent ordinary investors are willing to hand over complete control of their transactions to robots. For this reason, Robinhood has implemented multiple security mechanisms: agents can only access funds within their dedicated proxy accounts and cannot touch the user's main account; the system defaults to a "transaction-by-transaction confirmation" mode, requiring agents to obtain user approval before executing each transaction; users can also set their own limits for single transactions. In addition, Robinhood indicates that a zero-data retention agreement has been signed with relevant AI research institutions, ensuring that the content of users' conversations with agents remains private.

In terms of pricing, GPT-6 and Luna will be provided for free until the end of this year, while other models will be charged at the standard Token rate. Company executives stated that the usage cost in most trading scenarios is "negligible," but there is still uncertainty regarding the actual fees if the computing power cost rises unexpectedly or if users adopt research-intensive strategies on a large scale.

Complemented with 7×24-hour trading and perpetual futures, comprehensively expanding the product boundaries.

AI The intelligent agent is not the only highlight of this HOOD Summit. Robinhood also announced a series of plans to extend trading hours and asset categories, which complement the functions of the intelligent agent.

24/7 stock tradingRobinhood plans to upgrade the current "24/5" stock trading service (from 8 p.m. on Sunday evenings to 8 p.m. on Friday evenings) to a true 7×24-hour trading service, covering weekends, which will be launched after regulatory approval is obtained. This feature will rely on the institutional-level alternative trading system Bruce ATS for liquidity support.

Sustainable FuturesRobinhood will launch perpetual futures products for eligible US users, initially covering a total of 8 cryptocurrency varieties including BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, ADA, LINK, and HYPE. BTC and ETH offer up to 10x leverage, while other varieties offer up to 3x leverage. A fee of only 1 basis point will be charged for each transaction before the end of the year.

Profit ContractsThe company will also launch binary option contracts linked to corporate earnings in the predictive market segment, allowing users to trade on key financial indicators such as company revenue and earnings per share. It is expected to cover more than 20 popular underlying assets, provided through Cboe. Contract fees will be waived before the end of the year.

In addition, Robinhood has also announced that starting from October, the option trading hours for popular assets such as Nvidia, Tesla, SPY, and QQQ will be extended by 35%. They will also introduce tools such as a maximum of 4 times the intraday margin and OCO (withdraw all at once) orders to further enhance their attractiveness to active traders.

Regulation and Market Risks: Legal Liability Unclear

The large-scale commercialization of the AI intelligent entity has also brought about a series of risk issues that still need to be clarified.

At the legal responsibility level, the stance of Robinhood is that hosting intelligent agents does not constitute providing investment advice; the suggestions or actions of these agents are akin to users 'asking questions on the internet or to friends.' However, the legal framework surrounding proxy trading is still evolving, and in the event of losses, there is no definitive conclusion regarding who bears the responsibility.

At the market level, a large number of AI agents being active simultaneously in the market may have unpredictable effects. A scenario worth noting is that if multiple agents begin to "negotiate" with each other and collectively flood into or withdraw from a certain asset, it could trigger greater market fluctuations. In extreme cases, this might even lead to panic selling, especially when malicious actors are involved.

Last week, the stock prices of traditional financial institutions such as Credit Suisse Financial Services, LPL Financial, and JPMorgan Chase saw significant declines due to concerns that AI proxy software might automatically transfer customers' funds to higher-yielding accounts, demonstrating the market's high sensitivity to the impact of AI on traditional financial business models.

Robinhood takes the lead in making moves, and those following are already on their way.

Robinhood This time, it is the first brokerage firm to launch a native AI trading bot to a large group of non-technical users, but whether this first-mover advantage can be sustained remains to be seen.

Fintech and cryptocurrency companies such as eToro, Public, and Coinbase currently allow users to access their own intelligent agents through the MCP tool, and it is expected that these companies will soon launch trading intelligent agents directly within their platforms. Traditional brokers such as Credit Suisse Financial Services and Fidelity are also considered to follow suit sooner or later.

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev stated in the declaration: 'Ownership is inseparable from the market, and the market is inseparable from traders. We are making Robinhood the best platform for active traders around the world, providing them with tools that were once only available to hedge funds, large banks, and quantitative institutions.'

From a more macroscopic perspective, if the AI intelligent entity ultimately executes billions of transactions daily in the market, allowing ordinary investors to deploy complex strategies that were previously only accessible to institutions, the profound impact on market performance and the pattern of wealth accumulation is still difficult to assess at this time.
