Developers are beginning to integrate Project Tachyon with Zakura Common in order to advance towards their long-term goal of processing over 50,000 private payments per second.

Zcash The developers have released Udon, which is a component used to migrate some of the content intended for the expansion and upgrade of Tachyon into Zakura Common. Zakura Common is software used for creating and verifying private transactions.
Previous improvements to Common have reduced the time required to create a private transaction from over 3 seconds to less than 200 milliseconds, as observed in some tests. The goal of Tachyon is to limit the network's workload as usage increases.
Udon is just the beginning of the integration process, and the speed of Tachyon has not yet been demonstrated; this proposed upgrade still requires further development and security review before it may be activated.
The developers behind this privacy-focused Zcash are migrating a portion of their proposed expansion and upgrade into software that is already widely in use in the network, in preparation for more privacy transactions in the future.
This part is Udon. It was initially developed as a new component part of Project Tachyon. Meanwhile, Project Tachyon is the proposed expansion and upgrade for Zcash.
Zcash The wallet must prove that a private payment is valid, without revealing who paid how much to whom. The computers running the network will then check this proof.
As reported by CoinDesk in August, earlier improvements to Common had reduced the time required to generate a proof from over 3 seconds to less than 200 milliseconds, as observed in some tests.
If privacy payments become more common, these computers will need to process even more data.
Udon has incorporated some of the computational requirements needed for the proposed expansion and upgrade of Tachyon into Common; developers have already accelerated the relevant code in Common, so construction can continue on this basis. Udon has been released as software, but this upgrade has not yet been activated on Zcash.

The long-term goal set by Bowe and Ojha is to process over 50,000 payments per second. At this rate, they estimate that, with today's cryptographic solutions, each Zcash node will need to receive over 500 megabytes of data per second.
The design purpose of Tachyon is to merge proofs of multiple payments, reducing the amount of data that nodes need to receive and check. If multiple payments can share a single proof, then the Zcash computer will have even less to check. Generating such a proof consumes more memory; therefore, the team behind Bowe is using code that they have already optimized in Common to build it.
Therefore, as of Tuesday, Zcash is still far from this level of trading volume. ZecStats data shows that in the 7 days up to September 21st, there were an average of about 11,700 transactions involving blocked funds per day on the network, which is roughly one transaction every 7 seconds. In the 7 days up to September 28th, this average dropped to about 6,200 transactions per day.
