Oracle is facing schedule pressures on its large-scale AI data center project in New Mexico. The company has issued a force majeure notice regarding Project Jupiter, hoping to be exempt from any related penalties in the event of project delays. Affected by this news, Oracle's stock price with Bloom Energy tumbled significantly before the market opened.
The project is related to the construction of OpenAI.
Covering an area of about 1,400 acres, it is planned to provide computing power support for Oracle's cloud services and is related to the construction of Stargate at OpenAI. According to the current plan, the project will be equipped with a 2.5 gigawatt Bloom Energy fuel cell system to support the data center's load.
This means that market attention is not only focused on the construction of the single park itself, but also on whether it will affect Oracle's ability to meet the cloud computing demands associated with AI.
Natural gas licensing progress hindered
Oracle has not indicated that it will abandon the project, but hopes to obtain extended protection during the period when approval is hindered. Reports show that regulatory authorities in New Mexico have repeatedly blocked the advancement of key natural gas permits, putting pressure on the project's timeline.
Local communities and environmental groups have raised concerns about the energy consumption and emissions of the industrial park, which has also posed greater obstacles to the approval of the project.
The stock prices of two companies fell before the market opened.
The market reacted quickly to the uncertainties of the project. Oracle's stock price fell by 5.4% before the opening, and then the decline narrowed to about 3%. The decline for Bloom Energy was between 5% and 6%.
For investors, the current core issue is whether the project will only be postponed in the short term, or whether it will further affect the deployment of related equipment and the delivery schedule of the AI infrastructure.
