On September 11th, Bitcoin experienced another brief block reorganization. Galaxy Research mentioned that the block from SpiderPool was first seen by its nodes, but subsequently, AntPool also produced a valid block at the same height, and it was this latter block that eventually made it onto the main chain.

Two versions of blocks appear at the same height

Galaxy records show that the finally victorious block height of AntPool is 966,500, with a timestamp of UTC 11:30:30, and it contains 4,359 transactions. SpiderPool also generated a valid block of the same height.

Nodes see different versions in sequence.

Since Bitcoin blocks are not transmitted to every machine on the network at the same time, the node Galaxy first sees the version SpiderPool, and then discovers that AntPool continues to produce blocks at the same height. According to Bitcoin's rule of selecting the longest valid chain based on cumulative work, the node eventually switches to the branch AntPool.

It has occurred three times in the past month.

Galaxy Research also mentioned that there were block reorganizations on August 16th and August 24th, occurring at heights of 962,722 and 963,853 respectively. The institution stated that such single-block reorganizations are not uncommon and do not indicate any network failures.
