Anthropic has released a new update to the Claude voice mode. The company stated that users can now switch between Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku, and the voice mode will default to the most recently used model in text chat.

Voice mode adopts more models

The new version retains the voice functionality introduced last year, but no longer relies solely on Haiku. Anthropic stated that with this adjustment, the voice mode will prioritize the model selected by the user in the text conversation and call upon its fastest version.

This means that Claude's voice mode is no longer limited to simple question-and-answer sessions. The company cites examples such as its ability to be used for longer conversations, including refining expressions, organizing client proposals, or discussing product market research strategies.

It can be integrated with Gmail, Slack, and Notion.

Anthropic also integrates its voice mode with more applications, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Canva, and Notion. Users can directly use it to change meeting times, draft emails, or generate documents within Notion.

Compared to OpenAI's voice model, Anthropic emphasizes "action" capabilities rather than just the conversational experience. While OpenAI has also updated its voice style, it cannot yet utilize multiple tools like Claude.

Free users still have usage restrictions.

Anthropic stated that the new voice mode is now available to all users on all platforms in beta form. However, free users can only use the Haiku model and can connect to a maximum of one application.

The company also stated that this update did not adjust the speech model itself, nor did it disclose details of the underlying speech stack. The previously added multilingual support is still in testing; users need to manually specify the language. Supported languages include English, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, and Spanish.
