According to CoinMeta, and as reported by the Financial Times, global platinum refiner Heraeus (Heraeus) has been embroiled in a scandal due to long-term systematic underreporting of precious metal content, further exacerbating the crises it faces. An independent investigation found that over the past decade, Heraeus had lowered test results for 450 customers when processing materials for them, resulting in customers receiving less cash or refined metal after the material processing was completed. Heraeus has set aside 170 million euros to address the potential subsequent impacts of the investigation results.
