2026-11-04 13:15:27
According to CoinMeta, as reported by GoPlusSecurity, a post-event analysis of a recent incident pointed out that social engineering attacks targeting employees and the misuse of AI tools were the direct causes of the incident. AI related risks were particularly prominent, with AI tools becoming a direct entry point for attackers: 1️⃣ A AI coding tool was used as a bait in the supply chain; an engineer downloaded a tampered installation program found through a search engine, leading to the incident. 2️⃣ An internal AI tool served as a launching pad for the attackers' lateral movement; they used this tool to control employees A and C. CZ reflected on this incident in subsequent interviews, warning that it is a real wake-up call, not only for the crypto industry but for the entire financial system as well. AI is enhancing the capabilities of attackers and linking the security challenges of crypto and traditional finance, which requires serious reflection and action from the industry. According to alerts shared by the online investigator ZachXBT community, the French bank Cr é dit Cr éa had $133 million stolen just a few days after the Binance incident.
