According to CoinMeta, Xia Xin, the director of the Infrastructure Development Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, stated that water transportation is a low-cost mode of heavy-duty transport. During the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, China will build approximately 2,500 kilometers of new high-grade national waterways and over 100 automated dock berths with a capacity of 10,000 tons or more, essentially establishing a modern water transportation system. In terms of key tasks, efforts will be made to build world-class ports, enhance the shipping services, industrial support, and resource allocation capabilities of the Bohai Rim, Yangtze River Delta, and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao port clusters. The transportation functions of major ports for bulk materials will be optimized and improved, the inland water transportation system will be strengthened, the navigability of the main channels of the Yangtze River will be systematically enhanced, and the bottlenecks in key inter-provincial waterways will be gradually resolved. As for major projects, there will be an accelerated construction of a world-class Shanghai International Shipping Center, optimization and improvement of the Yangtze River Delta and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao port clusters, active development of the southeastern coastal port clusters, and the construction of new water transportation channels through the Three Gorges.
