Meta Secretly releases a new model? OpenRouter Launches the mysterious Crouton Alpha for free with millions of contexts
2026-11-04 10:46:36
According to CoinMeta, Meta recently launched an anonymous model named Crouton Alpha on OpenRouter. This model supports up to 1 million token contexts and is capable of processing text, images, audio, and video. It also supports reasoning and tool invocation, and is mainly aimed at high-frequency tasks in the AI and agent domains. Currently, this model is available for free for a limited period of one week. The community suspects that Crouton Alpha might be a new model in the Muse series of Meta. Developers have noticed that its regional restrictions closely match those of the Meta model API, and their reasoning parameters are also similar. During testing, it was found that Crouton Alpha and the Muse series exhibit the same errors when processing certain rare Japanese words, whereas the other 93 models do not have this issue. However, the token count of Crouton Alpha does not match that of the existing Muse models, so its true identity has not yet been determined.
