Apple plans to require users to pay for more Siri AI.

According to CoinMeta, Apple ($AAPL) plans to have customers pay for additional use of certain features after they reach the functional limits of their devices. CEO John Ternus outlined this plan when analysts asked how Apple could profit from its investments in AI. The restrictions will apply to features that rely on remote computing power, such as Siri AI and intelligent photo editing. Ternus stated that users who need more capacity will be able to purchase additional options, but he did not announce prices, usage quotas, or a release date. Apple's CFO, Kevin Parker, said that once customers have the devices, running AI tasks on them incurs very low additional costs for Apple, whereas sending the same requests to servers would generate costs that would be reflected in its service business. Ternus mentioned that Siri receives over 2.5 billion requests per day. Apple is still researching how much of this activity needs to be processed by its servers and how much can be handled by the devices themselves. Apple reported quarterly service revenue of $31.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 10%. Additional capacity sold will provide Apple with a way to charge more from its most heavy-duty AI users, while allowing customers who stay within their quotas to continue using these features.
