The "Election Effect" of Bitcoin: Political Catalyst or Coincidence with Halving Cycles?
2026-11-03 16:12:50
According to CoinMeta, author darko ( iosg ventures ) compares the performance of the U.S. stock market and Bitcoin after mid-term elections in history to discuss whether elections truly act as a catalyst for market gains. The data shows that in the 19 mid-term elections since 1950, the S&P 500 index has recorded gains within one year, with an average increase of 15.1%. Bitcoin also saw price increases after each of the three complete mid-term election cycles, with an average increase of about 54%, but prices often continued to fall in the short term after the elections. The article points out that mid-term elections coincide highly with Bitcoin's halving cycles, and there are only three such instances in historical data, making it difficult to prove the existence of an independent "election effect." Compared to election results, future market trends will depend more on the Federal Reserve's interest rate policy, ETF capital flows, and market liquidity, while changes in congressional control may affect the progress of legislation related to the crypto market structure.
