Zachxbt: European institution suspected of being hacked, with losses rising to $133 million
2026-11-03 15:37:49
According to CoinMeta, blockchain investigator Zachxbt has updated their investigation, stating that a European institution previously suspected of being targeted in a theft has been found to have made abnormal withdrawals from a centralized exchange (CEX) amounting to over $27 million. This brings the total amount of funds involved in the incident to over $133 million, with some of the withdrawals occurring after he first disclosed the incident publicly. Zachxbt speculates that the victim could be a large financial institution in Western Europe and that they are attempting to conceal this security breach. He criticizes the relevant institutions for not disclosing the incident in a timely manner, which resulted in over $30 million in funds being transferred for money laundering, missing the opportunity for EU law enforcement agencies to freeze those funds. As of now, the identity of the affected institution and the actual losses have not been officially confirmed.
