World Gold Council: Central banks around the world are buying gold at a pace not seen since 2024
2026-11-03 14:12:58
According to CoinMeta, the World Gold Council released a report stating that despite the pressures of rising oil prices and higher interest rates, central banks around the world made their fastest purchases of gold in the third quarter of 2024 since the end of 2024. Over the three months ending in September, central banks netted an increase of 321 tons of gold, with a cumulative gold purchase volume reaching 675 tons, slightly higher than the same period last year. The report indicates that central banks remain a significant supporting force for gold prices; their gold purchases have driven up gold prices for many years and reached a record high in January this year. John Reed, a senior market strategist at the World Gold Council, said that the weakening of gold prices this quarter may prompt some central banks to increase their purchasing efforts. The latest data shows that China and Poland were the largest buyers, increasing their holdings by 63 tons and 41 tons respectively, while Russia reduced its holdings by 19 tons.
