Vitalik Buterin: Concerns about undiscovered attack algorithms in elliptic curve cryptography
2026-11-03 10:35:07
According to CoinMeta, Wu said that Yehuda Lindell, the person in charge of cryptography at Coinbase, stated that there is no consensus in the cryptography community that elliptic curve cryptography is likely to be cracked, and there is currently no evidence to support this judgment. Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, responded in relevant discussions that he is concerned that there may be more efficient attack algorithms for elliptic curve discrete logarithm problems and bilinear pairing cryptography that have not yet been discovered, and that AI could potentially complete in five years what would take humans over fifty years of mathematical research, thereby accelerating the discovery of these algorithms.
