According to CoinMeta, Binance's investigation revealed that there were other vulnerabilities in its system as well as in the compromised computers. The US cryptocurrency exchange Kraken stated that its team searches for potential vulnerabilities daily, while Coinbase sets the system that stores cryptocurrency keys to offline mode. Several companies assured their customers that their cryptocurrencies are still secure. The founder of OKX and also CEO Star Xu argued that the industry needs a real-time alert system to share information, coordinate responses in case of hacker attacks, and temporarily freeze suspected stolen funds. The chief legal officer and strategic director of GSr, Josh Riezman, believes that, aside from Binance, the industry has not suffered significant losses, but this incident highlights the necessity of continuously improving security. The attack occurred on the 29th and lasted for about 20 minutes. US blockchain analysis firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis both believe that the methodology of the attack is similar to previous cases implicated with North Korea. Binance's co-CEO stated that this was a complex attack involving a compromised laptop and malware intended to delete evidence of the activity. Binance's investigation also found other entry points for the intrusion in both its system and the compromised laptop.
