According to CoinMeta, brothers from Texas, USA, Raymond Christian Garcia and Isiah Angelo Garcia, were sentenced to 15 years and 15 years and 6 months in prison respectively for being involved in a cryptocurrency robbery involving approximately $8 million. In September 2025, the two held a family in Minnesota at gunpoint for 9 hours, forcing the victims to log into their cryptocurrency accounts and transfer the funds to designated wallets. Subsequently, they discovered that the victims also had a hardware cryptocurrency wallet in a cabin about a 3-hour drive away. After the victim's son called the police, the two fled the scene. The police tracked them down using clues such as fast-food restaurant receipts, hotel surveillance, and car rental records, and arrested them. In June of this year, the two admitted to the crime of robbery obstructing business activities.
