According to CoinMeta, Wu said that on October 30th, Binance released an update on the security incident, stating that preliminary investigations indicate that the attack may have involved the intrusion into a laptop belonging to an engineer from DevOps. This allowed the attackers to gain access to service containers and initiate unauthorized withdrawal transactions. No evidence of wallet private key leakage has been found yet, and the specific cause is still under investigation. Binance stated that this incident is estimated to involve approximately $6.3 billion in assets, and they have collaborated with blockchain partners to freeze about $3 billion in assets on the chain. The platform has temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals, revoked the authorization of affected addresses, and is working with law enforcement and online analysis institutions to track the funds. Binance pledged to cover all losses through the SAFU fund and the company's own funds to ensure the safety of users' assets. They will also update their reserve certificate (POR) after the repair work is completed, and will publish a detailed technical review report at that time.
