According to CoinMeta, Hassett, the Director of the White House National Economic Council, hinted that if inflation data in October is high, he expects the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates. Hassett stated that once this month's CPI and PCE price indices are released, "it will be very clear what the Federal Reserve should do at that time." The latest PCE inflation report shows that core prices, excluding food and energy, rose by 3.1% year-on-year in September. Last month, the overall PCE inflation rate was 3.6%, far higher than the Federal Reserve's target of 2%. He said that if the pace of price increases slows down in October, it may indicate that the September data was just a "short-term fluctuation." Hassett also mentioned that he does not see any problem with the two votes in favor of raising interest rates that appeared on Wednesday FOMC. He praised Federal Reserve Chairman Powell for "doing a good job in accommodating normal dissent and fostering consensus." Hassett said, "The decisions made by the committee under his leadership are very data-driven in our view, so I currently have no concerns about the committee."
