According to CoinMeta, consumer price increases in the United States accelerated in September, which may further support the Federal Reserve in raising interest rates again in December after postponing such a move this week. A report released on Thursday by the Bureau of Economic Analysis showed that measured by the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index, prices rose 0.5% month-on-month and 3.6% year-on-year in September. The acceleration in price increases further indicates that inflation levels are higher than what Federal Reserve officials would like to see. The Fed measures inflation using the PCE Price Index, with its long-term goal being to maintain an annual increase of around 2%. Core prices, which exclude more volatile categories such as food and energy, rose 3.1% year-on-year and 0.3% month-on-month in September. In August, core prices also rose 0.3% month-on-month. The previous day, Federal Reserve officials decided to keep interest rates unchanged by a vote of 10 to 2, with two officials voting against maintaining the status quo and advocating for a rate hike. Investors expect that Federal Reserve officials may raise interest rates again at their last meeting of the year in December and could do so multiple times next year.
