According to CoinMeta, expectations for an interest rate hike by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) have significantly increased, and the Australian dollar strengthened against the US dollar during the Asian session on Thursday, trading around 0.7055. Australian inflation data exceeded expectations, reinforcing market expectations for an RBA rate hike and driving a slight rise in the Australian dollar against the US dollar. The market now expects a 82% probability that the RBA will raise interest rates to 4.85% at its next monetary policy meeting, up from 62% before the data was released. Carol Kong, a foreign exchange strategist at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, stated that the fact that Walsh did not mention further rate hikes should be interpreted as a dovish signal, or at least that his stance is not considered sufficiently hawkish. Strategists at Brown Brothers Harriman Bank pointed out that Australia's latest inflation data exceeded expectations, strengthening the case for another rate hike by the RBA and providing support for the Australian dollar. The bank noted that in September, CPI rose 4.3% year-on-year, higher than the market's forecast of 4.2% and August's 4.0%, mainly reflecting increases in housing and transportation costs, indicating that price pressures are higher than the RBA's previous expectations.
