CFTC Chairman: AI Integrates with Cryptocurrency Assets to Drive Automation of Trading Systems
2026-10-29 06:55:00
According to CoinMeta, as reported by Coindesk, Christopher Giancarlo, the chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), stated at an artificial intelligence forum that the integration of crypto assets with modern financial infrastructure could further automate trading systems and expand the range of financial instruments in use. While regulatory authorities have begun to utilize technology for market surveillance, autonomous trading agents also present new regulatory challenges, including whether developers of these agents need to register, who bears responsibility when agents get out of control, and how to identify the actual users behind them. He suggested that regulators may need to establish a mechanism similar to "Know Your Customer" (KYC) for "Know Your Agent." Giancarlo mentioned that lessons learned from the regulation of the crypto asset market could be applied to clarify relevant rules. Additionally, a roundtable discussion on 24/7 trading will be held on December 15th.
