Osmosis Community Proposes to Destroy 100 Million OSMO
2026-10-27 21:23:34
According to CoinMeta, the governance forum for Osmosis shows that community member johnnywyles has proposed a governance initiative to transfer 100 million OSMO tokens from the community fund pool to a destruction address. This amount represents approximately 12.6% of the current total supply of 794 million tokens, with a value of around 5.8 million US dollars at current prices. Under the proposal, some of the previously issued OSMO tokens were added to the community fund pool, creating a "soft destruction" state that could be reactivated through governance. This time, it is planned to permanently destroy 100 million of these tokens to eliminate the possibility of them re-entering circulation in the future. After the implementation, the community fund pool is expected to still hold about 19.3 million OSMO tokens and other assets. The proposal is currently in the discussion phase, with a target submission date on the blockchain of October 30th.
