Consumer confidence in France drops to a 13-year low after riots

According to CoinMeta, data released on Tuesday by the French National Institute of Statistics and Economics (INSEE) showed that France's consumer confidence index plummeted by 5 points to 80 in October, hitting a new low since 2013. Affected by multiple shocks such as bond market sell-offs and protests turning into riots, French households have been severely hit. This figure is not only lower than the median forecast of 85 from Bloomberg's survey but also below the predictions of all economists. Frequent inflation and political and budgetary instability have caused the index to remain below its long-term average of 100 for the past five years. In addition, the survey also indicates that the proportion of households expecting prices to rise in the next 12 months has increased.
