According to CoinMeta, a Ledger wallet was found to contain unauthorized hardware implants, and some blockchain investigators estimate that the loss exceeded 86 million US dollars. This incident has sparked discussions about the security of self-hosted wallets and Bitcoin ETF. Plan B stated that the decision to transfer Bitcoin holdings to ETF proved to be correct after the exposure of vulnerabilities Coldcard and Ledger, and they expressed no regrets. Ophelia Snyder mentioned that large holders are transferring their self-hosted assets to ETF for greater security. Adam Back pointed out that hardware wallets can still be used as a secure storage method, but suppliers need to enhance threat modeling. Jameson Lopp noted that self-hosting can still be robust, but one should avoid hasty migrations that could create new centralization points of failure.
