According to CoinMeta, Polygon Foundation CEO Sandeep Nailwal indicates that Polygon plans to permanently destroy 100 million POL through an unauthorized contract, with an expected annual revenue of 24.5 million US dollars in 2026. However, this contract is still in the testing phase, and deployment on the mainnet is pending the final signature from the Polygon security committee. Once deployment is completed, any community member can trigger the initial destruction process. This mechanism also allows community members to initiate additional base fee destructions every quarter. Nailwal also mentions that the processing capacity of Polygon has been increased tenfold, reaching 5,000 transactions per second. CoinMarketCap reports that after the announcement was released, the price of POL rose by 6.5%.
