According to CoinMeta, and based on the analysis by TRM Labs, from February 12 to August 11, a gang that utilized fraudulent AI crypto arbitrage robot tutorials to commit fraud induced 224 victims to deploy these robots on their own and deposit funds into malicious smart contracts. As a result, a total of 274.60 ETH were stolen, with the funds flowing into 6 addresses controlled by the attackers, amounting to approximately $517,000 at the time of transfer. The median loss for the victims was 1 ETH. TRM identified 9 highly similar YouTube tutorials, all claiming to allow users to build arbitrage robots using Claude. These tutorials directed users to websites controlled by the attackers, some of which impersonated Remix. One of the methods involved discarding the code that users pasted and replacing it with malicious contracts provided by the attackers, transferring the funds to their addresses. Some of these websites also fabricated "gas nonce liquidity" errors after the initial theft of funds to induce victims to continue depositing more money. As of September, these 9 videos had accumulated around 310,000 views. TRM also discovered that this scam had used ChatGPT as a bait in 2025.
