According to CoinMeta, a counterfeit AI trading bot tutorial deceived 224 victims, causing them to deploy malicious smart contracts that resulted in the theft of 274.6 ETH, worth approximately $517,000. A report on September 14 by TRM Labs indicated that the scam disguised malicious Ethereum contracts as automated trading tools, exploiting the Claude of Anthropic to allow fraudsters to steal funds without relying on traditional phishing links or suspicious wallet authorizations. Blockchain intelligence companies traced 234 contracts deployed by the victims; although 224 people were affected, some participants created multiple contracts. The funds obtained through these contracts ultimately ended up in six payment addresses controlled by the operators. Based on the value of ETH at the time of the transfers, the stolen 274.6 ETH amounted to about $517,000. TRM calculated a median loss of 1 ETH per incident, indicating that the total loss did not depend on a single large victim.
