OpenAI accelerates the clearance of old models, GPT-5.5 withdraws from the market in less than half a year after its launch

According to CoinMeta, OpenAI announced that starting from October 14th, GPT-5.5 will be taken offline from ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex accounts that use ChatGPT to log in; all packages will be affected. Codex users need to switch to GPT-5.6, SOL, or GPT-6. GPT-5.5 was released on April 23 of this year, and there were only 174 days from its release to the planned offline date. OpenAI stated that although GPT-5.5 will be taken offline, API will continue to provide that model, and Codex sessions that use API Key will not be affected. Users on the developer forum have requested to retain the entry for Codex, claiming that it is more stable in the production coding process and requires less rework.
