Electrum Releases Version 4.8.2, Fixing Multiple Security Issues
2026-09-13 06:23:04
According to CoinMeta, the Bitcoin wallet Electrum has released version 4.8.2, which fixes multiple security issues and enhances the protection of the codebase. This update addresses backup problems for some wallets that use non-deterministic keys and anchor channels. Existing channels or complete wallet backups for affected wallets may lack the keys required to retrieve funds on the blockchain after a remote forced shutdown. Electrum will issue a warning to affected users upon startup and recommend re-exporting backups; in such cases, old backups will not be able to fully restore funds. The update also strengthens lightning htlc verification, rejects previously acceptable abnormal xpub / xprv keys, and adds screenshot protection for Android side QR scanners.
