Robinhood CEO: Tokenized stocks should not require issuer approval
2026-09-12 18:34:02
According to CoinMeta, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev indicates that when the rights of underlying shareholders remain unchanged, tokenized stocks should not require issuer approval. He pointed out that issuer approval should only be required when the tokenized products alter shareholder rights, replace the official stock ledger, or create new obligations for the company. Tenev emphasizes: “The shares of a listed company are transferable personal property. Owners of freely transferable shares should typically be able to decide how to hold and use those shares.” Robinhood states that its stock tokens are separately issued instruments that are 1:1 backed by underlying shares, providing investors with economic exposure without altering the issuer’s rights or ownership structure. The broader information in Tenev is: “Going onto the blockchain should not grant the issuer a veto power that they never had off-chain.”
