According to CoinMeta, MoneyGram announced the launch of a Visa stablecoin debit card as part of its efforts to expand blockchain payments. The card will initially be available in Colombia in the form of a virtual card, which users can use through Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. MoneyGram plans to launch a physical card later this year in collaboration with infrastructure provider Rain. This move follows similar actions by its competitor Western Union. MoneyGram also launched its MGUSD stablecoin based on Stellar in June, further promoting cross-border payments. The World Bank has pointed out that stablecoins are a key tool in reducing global remittance costs.
