According to CoinMeta, global cross-border payment company Western Union (MoneyGram) has announced a partnership with stablecoin card issuance infrastructure platform Rain, wallet service provider Crossmint, and Stellar (Stellar Network) to launch its first stablecoin-backed Visa digital card in Colombia. The service expands from cross-border remittances to everyday consumer scenarios. This card is issued in digital form within Western Union's APP platform and supports binding with mainstream mobile payments for online or contactless payments (tap-to-pay). Cardholders can hold balances in US dollar stablecoins to make purchases at all merchants that support Visa, or they can withdraw their balances at any of Western Union's physical outlets to get local fiat cash. The platform currently supports settlement in USDC. An official spokesperson revealed that in the near future, the card will also support the US dollar stablecoin MGUSD which was launched by Western Union in June of this year.
