The Ethereum Foundation and Others Release Research on Quantum Attack Defense

According to CoinMeta, researchers from the Ethereum Foundation, Theta Labs, and Starkware have jointly published a paper that utilizes AI programming agents to deeply optimize the core operations of the Shor algorithm. The study indicates that the computational resources required for potential quantum attacks on Bitcoin and Ethereum’s secp256k1 encryption systems have been reduced by more than 50% compared to Google’s benchmarks from March this year. The number of logical qubits required for the attack has been lowered to 1,151, and in subsequent versions, it has even been reduced to 813. Although current quantum hardware is still not capable of directly cracking public blockchains, the research shows that pure algorithmic optimizations are significantly narrowing the time window for quantum threats. Researchers emphasize that anti-quantum upgrades are time-consuming and irreversible, and the industry needs to prepare defenses in advance.
