According to CoinMeta, on September 8th, the U.S. Department of Commerce awarded research and development grants of up to $100 million to quantum computing companies Rigetti, D-Wave, and Quantinuum under the Chips and Science Act, to advance technologies such as quantum chips, error correction, and fault-tolerant computing. Meanwhile, Ethereum Foundation has set December 2029 as an internal goal to fully achieve quantum-resistant capabilities in execution, consensus, and data layers, and is preparing for the potential emergence of “Q-Day” in 2030. There is currently no evidence that quantum computers capable of cracking the keys of BTC or ETH will appear in 2029; the current actions are mainly aimed at making preparations in advance for the cryptographic migrations that may take several years to complete.
