Sonic Labs CEO: Public chains must shift towards real revenue generation
2026-09-05 22:27:07
According to CoinMeta, Sonic Labs CEO Matt Visser stated in the open letter that the past encryption model, which relied on technical narratives, integration announcements, and token economics to drive growth, has become ineffective. Public chains must now return to aligning their products with the market and generating real revenue. AAVE proposed to shut down the deployment of Sonic, reflecting that integrations with low adoption rates cannot cover maintenance costs. In the future, Sonic will focus on four areas that can generate revenue: payments and foreign exchange, AI intelligent infrastructure, perpetual contracts, and RWA predictive markets. Matt emphasized that the buyback, destruction, or fee allocation of S-tokens should be placed after products and revenue; any value accumulation mechanisms without revenue support are merely a repackaging of treasury funds.
