Trump: No desire for any Canadian goods, trade war escalates
2026-09-01 23:47:43
According to CoinMeta, Trump stated in an interview with Fox News host Trey Gody that "I don't want any Canadian goods," and accused Canada of "exploiting" the United States for $60 billion each year. He called on Canadian companies operating in the U.S. to immediately relocate in order to avoid tariffs. Trump's remarks exacerbated trade tensions with Canada, and on August 22 he imposed new tariffs of 50% on Canadian imports worth $20 billion. Canada subsequently imposed reciprocal retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods. Trump also announced that starting January 1 next year, additional tariffs of 50% would be imposed on Canadian cars and parts, further intensifying trade frictions between the two countries.
