The US will approve an expansion of the biofuel exemption scale

According to CoinMeta, the Trump administration is expected to approve an expansion of the exemptions for biofuel blending requirements at U.S. refineries as early as Monday in order to alleviate the pressure of rising gasoline prices. Although refineries have been seeking to expand these exemptions to reduce fuel production costs, lawmakers from agricultural states have urged the White House not to exceed the exemption limits announced at the beginning of this year. Farmers are concerned that the exemptions will reduce demand for crops, and there is still disagreement between both sides regarding whether expanding the exemptions will truly lead to a significant decrease in gasoline prices. Sources indicate that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is expected to issue the latest annual exemptions to a group of smaller refineries, covering more than 1.8 billion renewable fuel credits. Companies applying for the exemptions include oil giants Marathon Petroleum and Chevron. This would be approximately twice the amount of carbon credits the agency initially planned to issue this year. Sources also say that, under the active lobbying of lawmakers from agricultural states and their allies, the EPA is considering a plan to offset the damage caused to farmers by the expanded exemptions by reopening the 2027 biofuel quotas and adding about 500 million (or possibly more) renewable fuel carbon credits.
