Warsh: The Fed must take action if inflation continues to exceed targets
2026-08-28 22:19:07
According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh stated at the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium in Wyoming that if policymakers are not confident that underlying inflation will return to the 2% target, the Fed will "have work to do." Warsh pointed out that current financial conditions do not seem tight, and he acknowledged for the first time that interest rate hikes may be necessary to ease price pressures. He emphasized that it is essential to ensure that underlying inflation moves towards the target in a clear and sufficiently rapid manner; otherwise, the Fed will need to take action. Warsh also mentioned that short-term interest rates are the main tool for achieving this dual mandate and stated that current market signals need to be as clear as possible in order to formulate appropriate monetary policy.
