According to CoinMeta, The Sandbox announced that it will compensate the holders of SAND affected by the bridge attack at a 1:1 ratio. The project disclosed that on August 21st, attackers took advantage of vulnerabilities in the configurations of the Base and BNB Chain contracts to transfer approximately 14.744 million SAND from the Ethereum wallet, worth about $700,000. The project team stated that users who legally held the bridged SAND through Base or BNB Smart Chain before the attack will receive an equivalent amount of SAND on the Ethereum blockchain from the project wallet as compensation. A new token issuance for compensation is not planned and is expected to be available within two weeks. In addition, The Sandbox also mentioned that the unsecured SAND tokens minted during the attack have been isolated and cannot be bridged or redeemed, and the affected bridge contracts will be permanently deactivated.
