Anthropic Wins Against the Pentagon: Blocking Claude被判 "Illegal and Without Basis"

According to CoinMeta, Anthropic won a lawsuit against the Pentagon. U.S. Federal Judge Rita Lin ruled that the government's classification of Anthropic as a "supply chain risk," its requirement for federal agencies to cease using Claude, and the restrictions on defense contractors cooperating with it were illegal. The court determined that these measures were in retaliation for Anthropic's public criticism of the government's AI policies. The judgment was very critical of the evidence submitted by the government; the entire set of measures was based on only a four-page memorandum, which was issued after two of the three measures were already in place. The judge believed that the government's remaining justification was merely "distrust" of Anthropic and that it wanted to use this as a means to assert its authority publicly. The court also made clear that the judgment did not compel the military to continue using Claude, and the Pentagon could still legally switch suppliers, but it could no longer use the "supply chain risk" rationale to block Anthropic.
