Japanese Finance Minister: Enhancing competitiveness will strengthen the credibility of the yen
2026-08-28 11:24:06
According to CoinMeta, Japanese Finance Minister Masayuki Katsumata stated on Friday that Japan's strategy of enhancing long-term competitiveness and potential economic growth rates by promoting investment and strengthening domestic supply capacity will help support the credibility of the yen. He pointed out that although economic and fiscal policies are not aimed at controlling exchange rates, the purpose of these measures is to enhance Japan's international competitiveness so that it can succeed in global competition. If this goal can be achieved, the credibility of the yen will naturally be maintained and enhanced. Despite joint intervention measures taken by the United States and Japan to support the yen, the yen remains weak. Since a weak yen poses a significant risk to domestic price stability, markets are increasingly expecting the Bank of Japan to raise interest rates at its next meeting in September.
