According to CoinMeta, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Khamenei responded to U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on social media, citing a report by The New York Times that pointed out the credibility of the U.S. bond market is under test. Yellen had previously criticized the Iranian government for transferring billions of dollars to proxies, to which Khamenei retorted that the United States should use the funds invested in about 750 military bases in Israel and around the world for its own people. He stated that Yellen's credibility is in jeopardy and suggested she do something meaningful instead. The New York Times reported that Yellen attempted to lower interest rates by expanding long-term U.S. debt repurchases, but with the U.S. debt at $40 trillion and inflationary pressures, her ability to control the bond market, as well as her personal credibility, are being tested.
