According to CoinMeta, the South Korean Shinhan Financial Group has signed a strategic agreement with Visa aimed at establishing a stablecoin payment infrastructure and expanding it to payments and commercial transactions driven by AI. The two parties will first test the infrastructure required for issuing, transferring, and redeeming stablecoins, and design models suitable for South Korea's financial system. Under the agreement, Shinhan and Visa will explore how to integrate stablecoins into Shinhan Financial's services to promote the development of the payment infrastructure. Shinhan Financial Group stated that it plans to include its main subsidiaries in the project, such as Shinhan Bank, Shinhan Card, and Jeju Bank. Visa will provide its international payment network and digital payment technology to support the project development. This project is another stablecoin initiative for Shinhan in the field of digital assets, following its latest quarterly report showing net income of 1.82 trillion Korean won (approximately $1.3 billion).
