According to CoinMeta, the Bank of Korea is set to announce its interest rate decision on Thursday, with analysts' views on whether to raise rates being almost evenly divided. Among 31 analysts surveyed by The Wall Street Journal, 16 expect the Bank of Korea to raise rates for the first time in three years in July, while another 15 predict that rates will remain unchanged until a raise is made in the fourth quarter. The market generally expects that, with inflation rates still above the target level of 2%, the Bank of Korea will raise its economic growth forecast for this year. Morgan Stanley economist Kathleen Oh stated that a "favorable macroeconomic environment" is sufficient to support an interest rate hike by the Bank of Korea in August. HSBC economist Jin Choi believes that, given that consumption seems to be weakening, the Bank of Korea is not in a hurry to raise rates. Barclays economist Bum Ki Son said, "We think there is a disagreement among the monetary policy committee regarding whether to keep rates unchanged or to raise them preemptively."
