Fed's Barkin: Rising U.S. debt will face liquidation
2026-08-26 07:42:27
According to CoinMeta, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell stated that if U.S. debt continues to rise, it will eventually face “liquidation,” but it is difficult to predict the exact timing. He pointed out that as long as the public continues to buy government bonds, the government can continue to borrow, but investors may begin to show resistance. Powell said, “As things develop, this will eventually lead to liquidation. One day, people will stop buying your debt, and that is the risk that currently exists.” In addition, Powell reiterated that given the evidence of declining inflation, interest rates should be kept stable, but if price pressures become entrenched, policymakers may have to raise interest rates.
