Canada Imposes 50% Tariffs on US Goods

According to CoinMeta, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took reciprocal countermeasures against the new tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump over the weekend and announced a support program to help Canadian businesses affected by the escalating trade war. Canada will double the existing retaliatory tariffs on U.S. steel and aluminum products to 50%. The same 50% tariff will apply to U.S.-manufactured furniture, clothing and garments, video game consoles, smartphones, and other electronic products. These retaliatory tariffs will affect U.S. imports worth approximately $20 billion, which accounts for about 6% of Canada's total imports from the United States last year.
