According to CoinMeta, and as reported by The New York Times, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued subpoenas to major Wall Street banks, requesting them to provide transaction information related to a hedge fund named Situational Awareness. The fund nearly collapsed at the end of July, and authorities are asking banks to retain all records related to this fund. The banks involved include Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, and Bank of America. Situational Awareness has not yet been accused of any improper conduct, and SEC has also not commented on this matter. The fund was founded two years ago by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner and reached a high of approximately $45 billion in July, but suffered losses of about $35 billion due to margin calls. The fund's portfolio was heavily weighted in AI infrastructure-related stocks, and by the end of June, SanDisk and Micron Technology accounted for more than 56% of its U.S. holdings.
