According to CoinMeta, mainland investors in Hong Kong banks are facing a critical point in their inactive account verification process. Recently, there have been reports that some banks in Hong Kong have initiated a procedure for investors from the Chinese mainland to declare the source of their funds, setting deadlines such as August 20th (investment services may be suspended if not submitted by then) and September 12th (investment services may be terminated if not submitted by then). Previously, in response to requirements from the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, some banks had already begun requiring new investors from the Chinese mainland to confirm that their funds came from legitimate overseas channels. This latest procedure for verifying the source of funds is aimed at existing accounts of mainland investors, which has drawn attention and sparked discussion. It has been confirmed that some licensed institutions in Hong Kong, including HSBC Hong Kong and branches of Chinese-funded banks, have indeed taken such measures recently, but the main targets are those who have been inactive accounts for a long time.
