At that time, Altman listed five or six directions for discussion with Peter Thiel, who advised him not to change direction, arguing that ChatGPT and Google (which had a simple search box back then) allowed users to ask any question. Thiel pointed out that Silicon Valley had been pursuing a certain business model for 20 years, and now a similar product had emerged. Although it did not conform to the previous product logic, it was already growing rapidly. Therefore, shifting to another direction would be an "obvious mistake." After hearing this, Altman decided to reinvest in ChatGPT, calling it Thiel's "simple but extremely important genius judgment."
